Since its founding in 1982, the Area of \u200b\u200bSociety and Capitalist Accumulation (ASAC) of the Department of Economics at the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM-Azcapotzalco) has dedicated more than four decades to scientific research with a critical approach to the capitalist economic and social reality. Inspired by Marxist traditions, but open to dialogue with other heterodox currents, the area focuses on the study of the global economy, with a particular emphasis on the Latin American and Mexican contexts.<\/h6>\n
The Area of \u200b\u200bSociety and Capitalist Accumulation has sought to establish a lasting impact and a meaningful connection with both the academic community and society at large. This commitment is manifested through open scientific debate, articulated around a research program based on a rigorous analysis of capitalism and its fundamental dynamics. Among other topics, the area analyzes the historical and contemporary evolution of the global economy and its multiple contradictions, addressing issues such as economic crises, both global and regional, and also considering the impacts of climate change and financialization; regional development, examining the challenges and opportunities for building more just and equitable societies; job insecurity, informality, and exploitation; gender inequalities and migration in the Latin American context; and the social and solidarity economy as an alternative to the capitalist model.<\/h6>\n
ASAC maintains a significant presence in the national and international academic community, actively participating in networks such as the Latin American Society of Political Economy and Critical Thought (SEPLA), the International Initiative for Promoting Political Economy (IIPPE) and the Union for Radical Political Economics (URPE) and its members contribute to the editorial boards of recognized journals such as, Trimestre Econ\u00f3mico and Review of Radical Political Economics.<\/em> y la Review of Radical Political Economics<\/em>.<\/h6>\n
The area also organizes regular seminars where relevant topics of political economy are discussed, which has led to the publication of various collective books such as The General Law of Capitalist Accumulation in Latin America and Beyond<\/em> (edited by Lorenzo Fusaro and Leinad Alcal\u00e1 in 2022), Coronavirus, Global Depression, and Systemic Crisis<\/em> (edited by Sergio C\u00e1mara, Lorenzo Fusaro and Abelardo Mari\u00f1a in 2021) and The contradictions of contemporary capitalism<\/em> (edited by Sergio C\u00e1mara in 2020).<\/h6>\n
